Through these various platforms, the gallery will be presenting a documentary film and masterpieces by 6 well-known artists from around the world. Their works span 20th century, contemporary, and Chinese feminist art (Gui Ge) with a strong focus on Chinese Diaspora and New Ink Art.
Highlight artworks include lyrical abstract works by Franco-Chinese artist Chu Teh-Chun, vibrant paintings of beauties by the well-known Chinese diaspora artist Walasse Ting; colourful abstract expressionist works by American artist Sam Francis, larger-than-life fruit sculptures and foliage installation by New York artist Ming Fay; powerful abstract ink paintings by K11 Foundation artist-in-residence Zhang Jian-Jun, and dreamy erotic ink paintings by emerging woman artist Wang Mengsha. In conjunction with Alisan Fine Arts' 5th solo exhibition for the renowned Franco- Chinese abstract artist Chu Teh-Chun, a documentary film about his art and life will be premiered at the film sections of Art Basel Hong Kong and the French May Arts Festival. This documentary, celebrating the artist’s centenary, is directed by French director and writer Christophe Fonseca, and co-produced by Les Films de L’Odyssée and the Foundation Chu Teh-Chun. It reveals the artist's unique artistic style through a combination of creative staging, dreamlike landscapes, artworks, and archive images, interspersed with previously unpublished quotes and conversations. Contributors include Eric Lefebvre, Director of the Cernushi Museum; artist Yan Pei-Ming; Sophie Makariou, President of National Museum of Asian Art-Guimet, Paris; Wang Wenzhang, former Vice-Minister of Culture, China as well as the family members.
