Shao YanYang Xiaojian Introduction
Alisan Fine Arts is pleased to present “Abstraction” a joint exhibition of calligraphic works by Yang Xiaojian (b.1960, Shanxi) and Shao Yan (b. 1962, Shandong). The title alludes to both artists push towards abstraction within the Chinese calligraphic tradition. On display will be works that challenge our perception of what conventional Chinese calligraphy is, demonstrating how both artists systematically deconstruct Chinese ideograms to create ‘abstract’ works. Together these works reflect China’s contemporary culture, and the broadening future of artistic creation. Yang Xiaojian's artworks have been collected by the National Art Museum of China, Beijing, LVMH Group, Paris and many private collectors. Shao Yan's artworks have been collected by Sydney University, Australia, Toady Art Museum, China, and the Henry Luce Foundation, US, to name a few. Each has shown extensively overseas and in China.
