Hung Fai was born in 1988 in Hong Kong, graduated from the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013. He explores both Chinese and Western media, developing unique expression and presentation techniques on paper and canvas. By deconstructing elements in traditional Chinese ink paintings, he conceptually reconstructs his works through a series of experimentation and transformation, pushing the boundaries of ink painting.
Hung's works have been exhibited in museums, institutions, galleries, and art fairs including The Weight of Lightness: Ink Art at M+ in Hong Kong, 2017; Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao from 2000 to 2020 at the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou; Garden of Six Seasons at Parasite in Hong Kong, 2020, and Kathmandu Triennale 2077, in 2022.
Hung has received the Gold Prize in the Liu Kuo-sung Ink Art Award in 2022 and the Certificate of Merit in the Twelfth National Exhibition of Fine Arts in China in 2014. His work is included in the collections of M+ in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and various private collections.
