Zheng Chongbin

Diaspora artist Zheng Chongbin is well-known for his immense artworks integrating Chinese ink, western art and new media, which carry out the concept of light and space. Zheng graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art) in Hangzhou in 1984 and taught painting there until 1988. In 1989 he received a fellowship from San Francisco Art Institute to study installation, performance, and conceptual art, and received his MFA in 1991. He is now based in San Francisco and Shanghai.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions around the globe, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Canter Art Center, Stanford University, USA; Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, South Korea; National Art Museum of China, Beijing; Shanghai Art Museum; as well as Venice Biennale; Taipei Contemporary Ink Painting Biennale; Shanghai Biennale; and Chengdu BiennaleHis works were on display at Summoning Memories: Art Beyond Chinese Traditions, Asia Society Texas, USA; and asite-specific art installation at Hong Kong Museum of Art, both in 2023.

Ink Alchemy at Alisan Fine Arts-Central 2023 marks the gallery’s first collaboration with the artist, and Zheng gave an artist talk during the exhibition. His works were also exhibited at 
Ink Asia in 2023, and on view at Alisan Fine Arts-New York Gallery's summer exhibition Themes and Variations in 2024.
