Chiang Yomei

Chiang Yomei, an artist, poet, and devout Buddhist, integrates philosophy, psychology, and Buddhist thought into her multidisciplinary works, which span painting, drawing, poetry, and installations. Born to a Chinese-Russian father and Chinese-German mother, Chiang was classically trained in Chinese landscape painting and literature in Taiwan before studying art and literature in the U.S., Germany, and the U.K. She holds degrees from the University of Kent and Winchester School of Art, with further studies at SOAS, University of London.

Chiang’s art reflects her meditations on nature, philosophy, and cognitive psychology, embodying a deeply intellectual and spiritual approach. Her works are held in private and public collections across Europe and Asia, including Ariadne Rothschild Foundation, Switzerland; Taiwan institutes such as Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation; Yuanta Wenhua; National Performing Arts Centre; Foundation of Harmony Social Welfare; Cheng Ching Hospital.
BIOGRAPHY
1961 Born in Taipei, Taiwan, granddaughter of Chiang Ching-kuo
1971 Began writing poetry at the age of ten
Studied under the masters of landscape painting, Hu Nianzu, watercolor painting, Wang Lan, and sketching, Li De
1979–1980 Studied Skidmore College, New York, USA, majoring in Art and Literature
Later studied in Germany, specializing in the German language
1981–1984 Obtained a double Bachelor's degree in Art History and English Literature, University of Kent, Canterbury, UK
1985–1986 Studied Chinese Art History, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, UK
1989 Started experimenting with various mediums including painting, writing, photography, installations, and performance art
Started practicing Buddhism
1991–1994 Obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Winchester School of Art, Winchester, UK
2024 Published the third poetry collection Midnight at Fish Hill with Impress Literature Publishing
Present Lives and works in London, UK
