The Art of Collecting: Daphne King-Yao on carving space for contemporary Chinese art in Hong Kong
Past
2025-08-20
Hong Kong, Central
"Alisan Fine Arts’ director Daphne King-Yao has been championing contemporary Chinese artists with her collection—up next, she wants to carve out more space for women.
Apainting might seem like an inappropriate 16th birthday gift. But not for Daphne King-Yao—after all, she’s the daughter of Alisan Fine Arts’ founder Alice King, a pioneer in promoting contemporary Chinese art in the 1980s, when Hong Kong’s art market was dominated by western canons."

"Locally based artist Cherie Cheuk Ka-wai is set to present her inaugural solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Renowned for her mythological symbolism and profound life experience, Cheuk Ka-wai skillfully transforms classical techniques into a dynamic discourse with contemporary society. Her mastery of digital-era visual culture allows her to traverse time with lyrical wit, seamlessly blending tradition and modernity. This exhibition will feature over twenty curated works spanning four distinct series—Gathering of Ten Fragrances,
Transcending Boundaries, Ballad of the Seasons and Mutual Reflections—each reimagining ink art through a contemporary visual framework."
