Leung Kui-Ting

Introduction

Born in Guangzhou, China in 1945, Leung Kui-ting moved with his family to Hong Kong in 1948. In 1964 he studied painting under Lui Shou-kwan and design under Wucius Wong at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. From 1974-1990 Leung worked as a part-time lecturer at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the Swire College of Design. From 1980-1994 he was the Principal and Director of Academic Affairs at the Hong Kong Chingying Institute of Visual Arts. In 1999 with the launch of the Hong Kong Public Art Scheme he was commissioned by the Provisional Regional Council Art Scheme Competition to create an artwork in one of three public venues. Presently, Leung is the Director of the Hong Kong Chingying Institute of Visual Arts, Advisor to the Hong Kong Art Development Council, and Honorary Advisor of the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

The gallery began representing Leung in 1983, holding a solo exhibition for him in 1991, and included his works in two group exhibitions for Lui Shou-kwan and his students in 1995 and 2015. Leung has had over sixty solo and group exhibitions around the world, including in North America, Europe and Asia.

His works have been collected by Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, University of Oxford; Singapore National Gallery; Hong Kong Museum of Art; Hong Kong Heritage Museum; Hongkong Land; Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation; Museu Luís de Camões, Macau. Over the years he has won several major awards in Hong Kong, including the Urban Council Fine Art Award in 1976, 10 Outstanding Young Persons of the Year in 1981, Urban Council Sculpture Design Award in 1994, Visual Arts Fellowships of Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 1999. He received the Freeman Asia Foundation Award, United States in 1998.
