Introduction
Following a successful exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre last September, Alisan Fine Arts has been invited to present "A Legacy of Ink: Lui Shou-kwan 40 Years On" as part of “Pi Daojian + Yan Yong: Being and Inking — Documenting Contemporary Ink Art 2001-2016” at the Redtory Museum of Contemporary Art in Guangzhou. Co-organised by the acclaimed art critic Pi Daojian, and academic Yan Yong the exhibition opens on 5 June at 5pm, with a symposium starting at 2:30pm. This exhibition is a continuation from Wang Huangsheng and Pi Daojian’s landmark exhibition “China: 20 Years of Ink Experiment 1980-2001” held at the Guangdong Museum of Art in 2001.Included in this exhibition are over 60 works, encompassing painting, video, installation and performance art.
The gallery will show a selection of works from A Legacy Of Ink: Lui Shou-kwan Forty Years On. An Exhibition of Lui Shou-kwan, His Students and A New Generation of Artists.” This exhibition was organised by Alisan Fine Arts last year to commemorate the 40th year since Lui Shou-kwan passed away, and to examine the current Hong Kong ink discourse. Of Lui Shou-kwan's students, we have chosen to include: Irene Chou, Chui Tze-hung, Kan Tai-keung, Koo Mei, Leung Kui-ting, Wucius Wong, and from the new generation: anothermountainman (Stanley Wong), Cheuk Ka-wai, Cherie, Ho Kwun-ting and Kassia Ko.
